Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) secretary on December 23 while hearing the petition seeking disqualification of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench Bar (LHCRBB) President Shafqat Bhatti.

Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi took up the petition for hearing Thursday. The petitioners advocate Mir Muhammad Ghufran and Khurshid Imtiaz appeared in the court. He took the plea that the eligibility and election of Bhatti as presidential candidate for LHCBB has been challenged. The petitioner himself was candidate for presidential slot of LHCRBB.

As per PBC rules, only that person is eligible to contest presidential election of the bar who has three years experience and  has contested 45 important cases .But PBC law has not been implemented in the election for the office of president of LHCRBB.

He said three candidates filed nomination papers for the presidential election of LHCRBB and election commission declared only Shafqat  Bhatti eligible for contesting elections. The license of Shafqat Bhatti as advocate has been cancelled. The learned judge of the high court issued orders for cancellation of license but private tribunal has suspended high court orders.

He said the decision of high court can be challenged only in Supreme Court. Pakistan Bar Council and Punjab bar council have been made respondents in the petition.

The court while issuing orders for appearance of secretary PBC on next hearing adjourned the hearing of the case till December, 23.
