ISLAMABAD-

Security was beefed up on Friday outside Islamabad’s Lal Masjid following a call of protest by civil society members, private media reported.

Roads leading to the mosque have been barricaded while a huge contingent of police guards the building. It was also reported that eight civil society members were arrested and were later released following an assurance that the protest would be moved to Melody Chowk.

Members of the civil society gave a call of protest after Friday prayers to condemn  Lal Masjid’s cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz statement that use of force against Taliban is not the “wise option”.

Aziz’s statement came while the nation mourned the  massacre of minor students in Peshawar at the hands of bloodthirsty Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and is looking up to the Pakistan Army for avenging the carnage.  He was adamant that use of force against Taliban is not the “wise option”.

Infuriated over Aziz’s denial to condemn the bloodbath in Army Public School, Peshawar, a large number of civil society activists staged a demonstration outside the infamous Lal Masjid on Thursday.

The entire civil society seemed to be enraged at the cleric’s hardline position and during the episode, some protesters even tried to storm the Lal Masjid.

Protesters carrying banners against the inhumane attack in Peshawar, chanted slogans against the cleric for being a ‘Taliban apologetic’.

The civil society also announced that the demonstration will be staged outside the Lal Masjid every day until Maulana Aziz does not apologise for his statement which hurt the sentiments of millions of people across country at a time when the nation was already suffering from a deep shock caused by the Peshawar massacre.

  1. This person should not even be titled as a Maulana this is an insult to genuine Clerics. He is one of them a Terrorist! have we forgoton what was found in Lal Masgid when it was stormed, there were more arms in there than what the Islamabad Police had! He should also be sent to the gallows.

    • Operations have never been a wise option our history is full of these useless operations east Pakistan army operation baluchistan army operations in bhutto and musharraf·s regime’s swat operation and the list goes on what good we have got from these operations so far except America’s encouragement is that what we are fighting for?my heart is deeply wounded at this tragic incident can’t explain the sorrow but please no more bloodshed of innocents neither here nor in tribal areas.

      • Innocents are not the target of Pakistan anywhere in the country. Only the terrorists and their supporters.
I would say that Pakistan also needs to go after the keyboard fasadis who sympathize with khawarij.

        • WHAT actually happens:
guy offends the Taliban….Taliban is at threat…Taliban kills the guy….army kills the Taliban….media summarizes the story something like this:
          1st channel…army killed Taliban
2nd channel…Taliban attacked for no reason!
3rd channel….army is not fair on attacking innocent Taliban!
AT THE END OF THE DAY: YOU'RE CONFUSED: WTF "REALLY" HAPPENED?

…face it, its too damn true. the argument proves it!

  2. Burqa Molvi should be arrested. Nawaz Sharif is protecting him. Nawaz and Shahbaz should be removed and investigated. Rana Sana is their frontman now. He should be taken into custody and thoroughly questioned. Peshawar carnage is not isolated but a well thought out atrocity to neutralise PTI and Imran threat.

  3. This is progress in Pakistan…when the people finally reject the militant mullahs and demonstrate against these hate mongers…these terrorist apologists are actually working for the enemy…

  4. Inshallah the Masjid will be free from these apostate protesters and the army offensive will end. One day all of Pakistan and Afghanistan will be united under Sharia.
