Civil and military leadership on Friday resolved to eradicate terrorism from the country, private media reported.
In a high-level meeting of the civilian and military leadership, led by Prime Minister(PM) Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff(COAS) General Raheel Sharif at the General Headquarters, issues related to national security were taken up.
The leadership also decided to tighten the level of security along Pak-Afghan border.
It was also reaffirmed that the operation being conducted in North Waziristan and Khyber would be expanded and militant hideouts would be targeted in Tirah valley of Khyber as well as in other tribal areas in the next stage of Zarb-i-Azb.
PM Nawaz also ensured army chief to provide support in terms of provision of resources and information. It was also decided that necessary amendments will be made in anti-terrorism laws.
Civil and military leadership also decided to enhance the mechanism of information-sharing between civilian and military intelligence agencies.
According to the sources, the issue of expected death sentence for terrorists was also discussed in the meeting.
The army chief also informed PM about his visit to Afghanistan.
The meeting came hours after Army Chief signed the death warrants of six terrorists.
At the three-hour-long meeting, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his key cabinet members were briefed over national security matters .
Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatmi were also present in the briefing.
