ISLAMABAD-
Mercy appeals for 17 terrorists, condemned to death by the courts, were rejected by President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday.
Out of those 17, one convict is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, six from Sindh and 10 from Punjab.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted moratorium on death penalty for terror convicts following 16 December’s deadly attack on Army Public School in Peshawar.
At least 148 people, mostly students, were killed in the attack.
Also on Wednesday, a high-level meeting, presided over by Punjab Home Secretary, discussed implementation of the PM orders.
Later, a letter from Inspector General Prisons was dispatched to jail superintendents directing them to get ‘black warrants’ from sessions court judges.
Others provinces will be following the suit.
