  • Heavy fog in Punjab, KP causes motorways closure
  • Eight injured in accident in Gujranwala

 

Heavy fog, which covered several parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Tuesday, caused the closure of motorways M1, M2 and M3.

The visibility at Motorway M1 dropped to 20 meters whereas visibility range at Motorway M2 was recorded as 10 to 30 meters from Islamabad to Chakri Interchange. The visibility at M2 from Bhera to Sheikhupura was 10 meters while zero visibility was recorded from Ravi Toll Plaza to Kalashakaku.

MOTORWAYS CLOSED:

According to sources, the Motorway Police suspended the traffic flow at Motorway M2 and advised the citizens to travel via GT Road. The police also shut down the routes of Motorway M3 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad.

The motorway officials also reported severe fog spells from Burhan to Peshawar, Islamabad to Chakri and Bhera to Sheikhupura.

The motorway authorities have advised the citizens to use fog lights while driving and avoid any unnecessary travel.

ACCIDENTS:

According to reports, dense fog engulfed Lahore, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Multan, Bahawalpur and other areas of Punjab.

At least eight people including a woman sustained injuries in a collision between a passenger van and a truck in Gujranwala on Tuesday. According to police sources, the road accident took place near Kamonki Toll Plaza.

Rescue 1122 teams shifted the injured to Civil Hospital for treatment. The wounded were identified as Hameeda, Tanveer, Abdul Basit, Shehryar, Abdul Majeed, Najam, Muhammad Akram and Ghulam Abbas.

BRACE FOR MORE FOG:

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, very cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during the next 24 hours.

Foggy conditions are expected to prevail over the plains of Punjab, KP and upper Sindh in morning hours during the next two to three days.

Coldest places recorded during last 24 hours include Skardu where temperature was recorded: -8.0°C, Kalat, Astore, Quetta: -7.0°C, Gilgit, Gupis: -6.0°C, Hunza, Kalam, Dir: -4.0°C, Rawalakot, Dalbandin: -3.0°C, Drosh, Malamjabba, Murree: -2.0°C, Bunji, Chitral, Mirkhani, Parachinar and Lower Dir: -1.0°C.
