Students from different private and public sector schools and colleges participated in a series of programmes to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sufi poet and saint, popularly known as Shah Bhittai, with girl students winning the quiz contest and boys clinching prizes in poetry recitation contest.
The programme, jointly organised by Sahar Foundation and Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai organisation, was held at Al Raza Academy, Keamari, with contestants from more than 75 schools scattered across the city.
Marvi Memon from Khaliqdina School, Old City bagged first prize in the quiz contest followed by Gul Muhammad from Government Secondary School, Pak Colony clinching second prize and Zarina Soomro from PECHS School winning third prize.
Arbaz Memon from SM Arts and Commerce College was the winner for the Shah Latif’s Kalam (poetry) recitation with Sassi Mithani of Mama Parsi School and Ghunsham from Abdullah Haroon College, Lyari, as the second and third prize winners of the contest.
Teachers and students on the occasion said there was need to understand and also spread the message of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai that was to create harmony and equity among the people in general so as to help develop an environment where peace and tranquillity may prevail.
The students were urged to learn relevance of mutual respect and tolerance that ultimately paves way for an enlightened society. They also were asked to develop a sensitivity as well as respect for each other’s values and also how to protect their environment and nature.
