The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has directed Capital Development Authority (CDA) to install road lights from Karal Chowk to Rawat on Islamabad Highway at the earliest.
NAB has issued these directives keeping in view the difficulties being faced by the citizens due to inordinate delay in installation of road lights.
These directives/recommendations contained in an enquiry report sent by NAB to CDA for action. The enquiry was conducted under the order of NAB chairman.
The CDA sources said road lights were installed on Islamabad Highway in 2002. Former CDA chairman Kamran Lashari ordered for expanding the highway in 2008 besides installing road lights. This tender was obtained by Riaz and Sons. This contractor did not install new lights but removed old lights and poles which were not returned to CDA store. Lights were removed but new lights have not been installed even after lapse of six years.
The NAB recommended in the report that recovery amounting to Rs 1,096,000 be made from the contractor besides initiating departmental inquiry.
Countless housing societies have been developed on both sides of Islamabad highway. They include Korang town, Pakistan town, PWD scheme, media town, Bahria town, HA Naval Anchorage, Gulberg, Judicial town and others.
Owing to lack of road lights several accidents have taken place. Every day is a field day for robbers on this highway particularly at midnight when they start robbing citizens taking advantage of lack of road lights.
