Tharparkar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Asif Jameel has assured that the relief activities are continuing in drought-hit areas of the Tharparkar district. However, a two-member commission of retired judges, formed by the Sindh chief minister, will submit a report on Thar to the Sindh government on January 6
Commission members, Justice (r) Ghulam Sarwar Korai and Justice (r) Arjan Ram Talreja, told the journalists on Monday that they made visits to hospitals, health centres, wheat go-downs and villages in Tharparkar where they met common people. The people of Thar shared their issues and problems, also gave some suggestions regarding the problems, they said adding they collected a lot of information regarding the Thar issue.
“Despite this, if any one has any problem or complaint, they can send them along with a copy of CNIC by Dec 20 to Bangalow No 40, Street No 24, Khayaban-e-Mujahid DHA, Karachi,” they said.
Aside from this, doctors candidates, domiciled in Tharparkar, can send their applications to the above mentioned address and they would arrange their interviews, they added.
Replying to a question, they said that no one was discouraged to lodge complaints during their stay at Thar.They added even many people shared their issues with them when they were on the way. They said that there was a need of creating awareness among the people about the health issues.
An 18-month course is being imparted to 30 educated girls by health department and they would be appointed here as they can serve their own people, they said.
NO DISRUPTION IN THAR RELIEF WORKS:
The Tharparkar deputy commissioner has, in the meanwhile, described a report appeared in a section of media about relief works’ disruption as baseless, said a statement issued Sunday.
Jameel said that besides wheat distribution, blankets, mosquito nets, dates, drinking water bottles and milk packets for children are being distributed among the drought affectees.
Asif Jameel said, in the fourth round of wheat distribution, an additional stock of 3,105 sacks of 50-kg was distributed among the affectees. He added that as fourth round ends, the fifth round of wheat distribution would be started.
The stock of blankets and dates donated by the PDMA is being distributed under supervision of the assistant commissioners and mukhtiarkars, he said, adding that he made many visits to different towns and villages in the district to review the relief activities. He further said pregnant women are being vaccinated, adding that in addition to this, all other medical facilities are being provided to the people in the district free of cost.
The livestock is being vaccinated in the district and as many as 968,244 cattle heads have been vaccinated so far, he said adding that mobile teams were formed to vaccinate livestock in the remote areas of the district. He assured that if any complaint was received regarding relief activities, action would be taken.
