Vision coupled with smart choice-making characterises dynamic leadership which serves as an essential prerequisite for a healthy democratic apparatus of a state .Unfortunately these vital ingredients have been a rarity in Pakistan since the demise of its founding leaders whose every action was governed by a conscious cognitive process which had the ability to gauge the dire repercussions of misfired actions. The status quo in Pakistan is reflective of the inevitable degeneration of the society that takes place as a consequence of delusory leadership. The leaders who enjoy the vote of confidence of the general populace have failed to dispense their duties towards the state and are instead indulged in blame game spearheaded by a war of egos.
PTI’s Plan C is under execution and the nation has literally been brought to a halt. The nauseating images of fear, death and destruction are indicative of the apathy of the party leadership which is concerned only with the attainment of its goals to establish its authority, irrespective of the dire repercussions their acts have over the state life. They have indeed redefined patriotism which according to them is manifested by targeting public infrastructure, distressing the citizens, and affecting the state business which has badly lashed the economy. While efforts are being rendered by youth such as Malala to restore the nation’s image abroad, our leadership leaves no stone unturned to tarnish it, hence ironically manifesting its level of maturity.
Rendering an apology to the citizens for causing them distress owing to violent protests does not absolves the leadership. What about the people who passed away as the ambulances carrying them failed to reach the hospital on time as a consequence of the blockages of roads due to the widespread protest in Lahore? They were not even related to the protests. Who is to be held responsible for their demise, whether the government for its political procrastination or the PTI leadership for its inability to understand the gravity of seriousness that the nation is going through?
Democracy and delusory leadership cannot coexist and this is what is reiterated by the status quo. The political parties have failed to resolve their differences through dialogue and hence have resorted to violence. PTI’s Plan C, a parallel of violence, has certainly made one thing quite evident and that is the fact that democracy is approaching a halt in Pakistan owing to the failure of our leadership. The scenes that one gets to witness are indicative of the turbulence that precedes the stamping of the boots of the khakis. It seems as if the time has come to bid adieu to democracy, and to our dreams as we do not deserve them.
