President for stronger Pak-Sudan ties

President Mamnoon Hussain said Monday that Pakistan is keen to enhance relations with Sudan particularly in trade, economic and defence sectors.

Talking to the Ambassador of Sudan in Pakistan Alshafie Ahmed Mohamed who paid a farewell call on him here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Sudan and wishes to further consolidate them.

Both countries should continue exploring mutual avenues to further increase the volume of trade, said Mamnoon, adding that the existing bilateral trade volume of US$ 46.47 million was far below the potential.

He hoped that the proposed third round of Pak-Sudan Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) to be held early next year would further enhance bilateral economic cooperation.

The president noted with appreciation that both the countries had extended support to each other at various regional and international forums. He expressed commitment to furthering bilateral collaboration in diverse fields to the mutual benefit of the people of both the countries.

He also conveyed his well wishes to Sudan President Omar al Bashir and the Sudanese leadership.

President Mamnoon conveyed his gratitude to his Sudanese counterpart for inviting him to visit Sudan and expressed the hope to visit Sudan at the earliest possible convenience.

The president appreciated the ambassadorial services of the Sudanese diplomat in bringing Pakistan and Sudan closer.

He wished the outgoing envoy luck and success in his future life and assignments.
