The commuters of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have demanded the authorities to check the fares of taxis following the decrease in fuel prices.
The commuters complained that though the reduction in fuel prices has been done to mitigate problems of the common man, taxi drivers were reluctant to cut the fares accordingly.
They said that whenever fuel prices rise, taxi drivers increase fares on their own. Now the government has decreased price of petroleum products but the cabbies are not ready to cut the fares.
Akhtar, a commuter of sector G-7/1 said it seemed that transport authority was not taking steps against the overcharging by taxi drivers.
Another commuter, Babar Ali urged the authorities concerned to take appropriate steps to ensure reduction.
An official of Rawalpindi Transport Authority (RTA) admitted that there was no mechanism to check taxi fares in the city. However, he assured that the authority would take action against the overcharging.
