As many as 365 students of Masters and Undergraduate programmes were awarded degrees in the 12th Convocation of Bahria University Islamabad held here at Jinnah Convention Centre on Sunday.
Students were also honoured with gold and silver medals for their outstanding achievements in their academic career.
Rector Bahria University Vice Admiral (retd) Shahid Iqbal, who was the chief guest, conferred degrees on the graduating students.
Nine gold and nine silver medals were awarded to those students, who achieved top positions in their respective departments.
Intikhab Alam, Muhammad Ahmad Amin of Computer Sciences Department, Muhammad Ahmad Amin Software Engineering Department, Nighat Zehra, Sadia Nisar, Muhammad Zubair, Hammad Ghafoor Management Sciences Department, Muhammad Kashif Ali Khan of Humanities and Social Sciences Department, Anum Zafar, Muhammad Shoaib of Earth and Environmental Department, received gold medals.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Admiral ® Shahid Iqbal congratulated the students and their parents on their splendid success and said,” The role of universities and institutions have gained significant importance to help impart the requisite education and fostering competencies to make them better and productive citizen of Pakistan.”
Bahria University is taking necessary initiatives required for research activities. Scholarly research work and other forums of creative endeavours are essential for the sustained intellectual growth of any higher educational institution.
He said, ”It is a matter of great satisfaction and encouragement for all of us that university is effectively contributing in building up human resource of the country.”
He said Bahria University, through its strong community support programme, was working on various projects as an integral activity and linked under graduate degree programmes with community development projects making it mandatory for students to become active in social work.
He also threw light on the student‘s merit and need based scholarship and study loan schemes.
Earlier in his welcome address, Rear Admiral (Retd) Saleem Akhtar, Pro-Rector/DG Campus Islamabad, congratulated the students and their parents, and wished them a prosperous future.
He said that higher education has now become a tool of economic growth. The universities have great responsibility of producing quality graduates who could contribute positively in various fields for economic growth of the country. “Our vision is to prepare our students for the national as well as international market, maintaining high standards of education.”
He said that new endeavours undertaken by the management of Bahria University with commitment and determination will yield the best results for all the stakeholders and will definitely provide competitive edge to Bahria University to become the leading University of the country.
