Tell PML-N workers to remain calm, avoid coming on roads during PTI’s protest in Lahore
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif vowed to take the country on the road of development and “foil the nefarious designs of miscreants” as the two met in Lahore on Sunday to discuss the special arrangements made to ensure the security of citizens and public property during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI’s) shutdown protest in Lahore today.
During a meeting to discuss the ongoing political situation in the country, the two leaders advised Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers and supporter to remain calm and prohibited them from coming out on the roads in Lahore today.
Sources privy to the meeting said that the CM informed the PM that party officer-bearers and assembly members have been told not to allow PML-N workers to hit the roads, even if they are “incited by protestors to do so”.
Talking about the government’s development schemes for the country, the premier said the government is working day and night to come up to the expectations of the people and referred to the relief provided to the masses by the cut in power tariff and POL prices.
POL prices will be further reduced in January 2015, said the premier, adding that it would be a “New Year’s gift” to the people of Pakistan.
PM TO ATTEND XMAS DAY FUNCTION:
Separately, it has been decided that PM Nawaz Sharif will attend the central Christmas function to be held at Convention Centre Islamabad and cut the Christmas cake.
The function will be attended by representatives, religious figures and prominent leaders of the Christian community from across the country in addition to Islamabad-based diplomats. Delegates from abroad will also be invited to the function.
A Christmas dinner would also be held for the participants of the function for which an organising committee has been formed.
According to details, the premier has approved a plan to express solidarity with the Christian community on the occasion of Christmas and to create a sense of security among the country’s religious minorities.
Sources in the ruling PML-N reportedly said that the premier accepted PML-N leader Chaudhry Mohammad Ashraf Gujjar’s proposal Sunday that the PM take steps to restore the image of the country and provide a sense of security to the Christian community after the recent incidents against the minority community.
In this regard, the PM has reportedly formed a committee comprising Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael and PML-N leaders Dr Asif Saeed Kirmani and Ashraf Gujjar.
