Security forces early Sunday bombed hideouts of militants in Khyber Agency, killing one of the terrorists and leaving four injured.

The operation was launched against militants’ hideouts in Tirah Valley. Weapons den of militants was also destroyed in the attack. Pakistan’s army says it has killed more than 1,600 militants so far, with 126 soldiers losing their lives.

In June the army began an offensive against militant hideouts in the North Waziristan tribal agency after a bloody raid on Karachi Airport ended faltering peace talks between the government and the Taliban.

The main battleground against Al-Qaeda and Afghan and Pakistani Taliban militants is in the north-western tribal belt of the country but many analysts and officials believe that some militant fighters also come from the southern Punjab.
