PTI chief enraged over restoration of membership of four PTI Pindi leaders, says notification holds no value as he was not taken into confidence
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has expressed his anger over restoration of membership of four PTI leaders belonging to Rawalpindi and emphasised that Ejaz Khan Niazi is the Rawalpindi president of the party.
The PTI had suspended the membership of 10 office bearers following their fight with a cousin of Khan at the venue of the sit-in in Islamabad on November 10.
However, PTI on Tuesday restored the membership of four local leaders of the party, including MPAs Arif Abbasi and Rashid Hafeez, Omer Butt and Rawalpindi Youth Wing President Faisal Mughal.
The party’s additional secretary general Saifullah Niazi issued a notification allowing Arif Abbasi to resume his duties as the district president.
According to sources expressing his anger over the restoration of members, Khan summoned senior party leader Amir Kiyani and reprimanded him and said that why no one took him into confidence over this and said that this notification of restoration holds no value.
Khan said that Ejaz Khan Niazi is the district Rawalpindi president of the party and he will remain so till further notice, sources said.
KHAN VISITS HIGH COURT BAR:
In the meanwhile, while addressing a gathering in Islamabad High Court Bar, Khan reiterated that his party wanted transparent investigations into alleged rigging in general elections to ensure complete fairness in next polls.
Khan said at least 50 votes were cast on a single thumb impression in different constituencies in 2013 elections.
“I accepted elections for the sake of country, but not the rigging. Democracy could only come once monarchy ends,” said Khan, adding that the moment for “bringing change” should not be wasted.
The PTI chief said National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq was hiding behind the court’s stay order regarding rigging in his constituency.
Khan said that no system was better than democracy. In a democratic system, he said, people get promotions on the basis of merit. He went on to say that the second beauty of democracy was accountability of rulers.
“In 1965, we were ahead. Now India has developed, leaving Pakistan behind,” Khan said, urging the legal fraternity to support his struggle for bringing “genuine democracy” in the country.
“Pakistan could not prosper because genuine democracy doesn’t exist in the country,” Khan said while addressing the lawyers of Islamabad High Court Bar.
Terming last year general elections a “huge fraud,” he once again called for probe of alleged riggings in the polls.
Elaborating his demand for verification of votes, he said that the purpose of probe into the last year general elections is to ensure free and fair polls in the future.
“It was the only election in the country’s history after which the ruling party also alleged that rigging took place in the polls,” the PTI chief said. He also stressed upon a need to make influential persons accountable.
“In order to put an end to crime it is necessary to punish criminals,” Khan said, asking “How can target killings stop if target killers were not arrested?”
