FIA inspector summoned in PEMRA ex-chief harassment case

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) inspector Tahir Khan along with record today in the case of harassment of Chaudhry Muhammad Rashid former chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) by FIA.

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Noor ul Haq N Qureshi took up former chairman PEMRA Chaudhry Muhammad Rashid versus federation case for hearing Thursday.

Wasim Sajjad counsel for the petitioner appeared and told the court former chairman PEMRA, Chaudhry Muhammad Rashid is being harassed by FIA. Counsel for federation had assured the court on previous hearing that the petitioner would not be harassed and high court had stopped federation and other institutions from harassing him. Despite court’s orders a notice has been received from FIA wherein it is said that his client is being called in connection with investigation of a case.

He told the court that baseless cases have been instituted against his client which are pending hearing in the high court. Only one institution among NAB and FIA can investigate the petitioner. On the other hand both the institutions are trying to harass him. IHC has already stopped government and other institutions from harassing him but FIA is harassing him.
