A two-day international conference on Challenges in Business and Management (ICCBM) opened at National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Wednesday.
The conference, organised by the Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS), was inaugurated by Gul Ahmed Textile Mills CEO Zaid Bashir along with NUML Rector Maj Gen (r) Masood Hasan.
Speaking on the occasion, Zaid Bashir highlighted the potentials of Pakistan economy and the challenges it was faced with. He said Pakistan was rich in resources, but it could not progress for being unable to utilize the same.He said the young generation needed to be innovative in its approach to the problems being faced by the country.
Zaid Bashir suggested, “Our education system should promote questioning among the students to enable them to develop solutions for the problems.”
In her keynote address, Prof Dr Li Jingye of Beijing Language and Culture University, China gave an overview of the Chinese economy in terms of rapid growth and related problems. She said the Chinese economy had been growing in double digit over the past few years but there was a trend to slow down in the coming years.
Prof Dr Li Jingye highlighted the strength of Chinese economy, including technological advancement, prudent policies based on encouragement for private sector, large component of exports in the gross domestic product and trained labour. She said the Chinese government was trying to overcome the problems, including growing corruption and economic inequality.
She said that the present Chinese leadership was moving to make China a truly social welfare state. China was also interested in studying Islamic banking system with a view to making banking more people-friendly.
