Education and children rights’ activist Malala Yousafzai has said that she wants to serve her country as prime minister after taking part in politics, private media reported.

“If I can help my country by joining the government or becoming the prime minister, I would definitely be up for this task,” she said in an interview to BBC programme Hardtalk.

Ahead of the event where she will be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Wednesday,  Malala affirmed to return to the country after her education is complete in Britain.

“I want to serve my country. It is my dream to see my country develop into a successful nation, where every child is able to receive education,” she said.

Malala stated that she is  inspired by assassinated former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Showing her disappointment over Indian and Pakistani premiers’ not attending the ceremony she said, “if the prime ministers had come here I would have been very happy. I would have thought of it as a big opportunity to ask them… to make education their top priority and work on it together because we see the number of children who are out of school and suffering from child labour are mostly in India and Pakistan.”

Emphasizing the importance of  the children education she said, “in this world if we are thinking we are modern and have achieved so much development, then why is it that there are so many countries where children are not asking for any iPad or computer or anything. What they are asking for is just a book, just a pen, so why can’t we do that?”

The 17-year-old globally acclaimed Malala is the youngest Pakistani to receive Nobel Peace prize. Malala will receive the prize in Oslo today with Indian campaigner Kailash Satyarthi.

Two years back Malala was shot by Taliban to raise voice for the girls’ education. However, she managed to survive after being flown for extensive surgery in Birmingham, central England. She has been based in England with her family ever since, continuing both her education and activism.
