American Refugees Committee on Tuesday held a ceremony at AQS centre for education, rts and culture to highlight the issue and an end to violence against women.

The occasion symbolized ARC’s continued commitment to work with the local and international community to strive towards ending all forms of violence against women.

ARC’s country representative Mr. Tariq Cheema, opened the ceremony by cutting an orange ribbon, representing this year’s United Nations theme to end violence against women, and the spirit of solidarity to women from all over the world.

The event consisted of a variety of activities including an arts and crafts exhibition and theatre performance portraying efforts of ARC and other non-governmental organizations to bring a positive change in society by discouraging all forms of violence.

ARC started its operations in Pakistan in 2002 starting with health care services in Balochistan and gradual expansion to other parts of the country. From our beginnings, we have a deep passion for community service and our mission is to rebuild lives of dignity, be it serving people in the most difficult terrains in Balochistan or saving lives following a disaster in places like Kashmir and Swat amongst others with a special focus on gender based issues.

Over the last 12 years, ARC has achieved a number of milestones reflective of our passion and commitment to empower people in marginalized communities. In 2002 we started our health care services program in Balochistan, providing primary health care services to the community without any access to any hospital, taking care of the health of mothers and children, promoting livelihoods and community resilience and women empowerment. We went on to set new standards in health services delivery and setting up women and youth friendly spaces.

It has been very active advocate to devise solutions to serve people in need, specially women and children, who are usually the most vulnerable due to socio-cultural reasons.

We dream, we dare and we strive to create solutions that serve people better. Although we have grown significantly as a non-profit organization over the past twelve years, our dreams of empowering people have grown too and continue to be the driving force as we strive to expand the limits of the possible and deliver the incredible in everything we do.
