Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said on Monday that the support price of wheat, which was Rs1200 per 40 kilogram last year, would be increased further this year.
He said this in a statement issued from the CM House. The Sindh Chief Minister said that last year, the Sindh government had increased the support price of wheat from Rs1200 to Rs1250 per 40 kg. “This year, again we would increased the price further to encourage the growers to cultivate more wheat,” he said.
“Agriculture is the backbone of our economy and the PPP government is taking all out efforts to promote this sector by giving incentives and introducing new technologies to get maximum yield,” he said. Shah further said that over 14 million acres of land was under wheat cultivation. “The government is taking necessary measures to provide certified seed to the growers to get good yield,” he said.
He said, “The Sindh government at its Sakrand Research Centre had produced a new variety of wheat and it was named after our Chairperson Shaheed Mohterma Benazir Bhutto, “The Benazir wheat variety Seed. last year over 80 percent growers cultivated new variety and produced 80 maund per acre which was unprecedented in Pakistan, and added that Benazir Seed variety is so strong that it could give best results even in the saline areas.
The chief minister, brushing aside the impression of not holding local bodies election, said Sindh was the first provincial in the country which had enacted required laws and also completed delimitation. But, some people challenged it in the court and the court decided that the delimitations would be made by the Election Commission of Pakistan, otherwise, we were ready to hold local bodies elections.
