A three-day anti-polio campaign was launched across Punjab on Monday.

According to a spokesman of the Provincial Health Department, a total of 35,204 mobile teams are working to administer polio vaccination drops to 18 million children under the age of five years.

He said that 2,254 teams have also been deputed at the entry and exit points of the province to administer drops to travelling children.

He said that all necessary arrangements are in place to administer drops at all hospitals and health centres.

Meanwhile, Multan Health Department has launched a three-day campaign to administer polio drops to more than 800,000 children below age of five years in 185 union councils of the city.

Teams comprising 1,800 people, including lady health workers, teachers, police, civil defence members, government officials have been formed for the vaccination drive.

Pakistan is one of only three countries in the world where polio remains endemic. Efforts to stamp out the disease have been badly hit in recent years by attacks on immunisation teams.
