The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued 15-day notice to Islamabad Inspector General Police (IGP) and sought a reply from him on the matter of non-payment of 25 percent share of challan amount collected over the past five years to Islamabad traffic police employees.
The court has restrained the police department from purchasing equipment for police out of amount collected under the head of traffic challans.
A single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah took up for hearing a case filed by Head Constable Ejaz Ahmad and other employees of traffic police on Monday.
The petitioner and Inspector Abdul Rauf from legal branch police appeared in the court.
The traffic police personnel told the court that previously 25 percent share out of challan amount was paid to traffic police employees but the government has stopped payment of 25 percent share out of traffic challan amount to traffic police employees for the past several years.
The legal branch inspector told the court that equipment and other items are purchased for traffic police out of the amount collected under traffic challan head.
Under what law is the equipment purchased out of the amount collected against traffic challans, questioned the judge.
The hearing of the case was adjourned for two weeks.
