Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif has said that the project of provision of potable water to the citizens is of great importance as it is directly linked with human health. Therefore, he said, Punjab government has evolved a comprehensive programme for the supply of clean water to the masses and billions of rupees are being spent for this purpose.
He was presiding over a high-level meeting on Monday to review the pace of implementation of potable water project in the province. Local Government secretary gave a briefing on installation of water filtration plants under this project. The Local Government secretary informed the meeting that a programme has been chalked out for the installation of a total of 1,650 water filtration plants in the province.
The meeting decided that 307 water filtration plants will be installed for the supply of drinking water to the citizens. In the first phase, water filtration plants will be installed in the districts of north and south Punjab and the scope of this project will be expanded under a phased programme, it was decided.
Addressing the meeting, the CM directed authorities concerned to expedite the installation of water filtration plants under this programme and “finish the project as early as possible”. He directed that a comprehensive mechanism be devised for the implementation of the project and third party audit system should be evolved for effective monitoring of the project.
