The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday rejected a contempt of court plea against the prime minister and chief ministers for refusing to build Kalabagh Dam.

A bench of LHC comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard the case.

Petitioner Chaudhry Saleem in his plea said that despite the court orders the government had failed to take steps for construction of Kalabagh Dam. He pleaded for contempt of court proceedings against the PM and chief ministers over violation of the court order.

LHC single bench, after hearing the arguments, dismissed the plea declaring it “non-maintainable”.

Earlier, a LHC bench in a verdict over petitions for the construction of Kalabagh Dam had ordered the government to build the contentious hydro-electric project.
