Chinese State Councillor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun visited Pakistan on the invitation of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

During the three-day visit, Shengkun called on President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He conveyed cordial greetings and good wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to the president and the PM. Describing Pakistan-China friendship as deeply rooted and un-breakable, he said China has always attached the highest importance to its relationship with Pakistan.

China is ready to work with Pakistan to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, steadily promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and continuously enhance the Pakistan-China Strategic Cooperative Partnership, said a statement of the Foreign Office on Monday.

The president and the PM asked Shengkun to convey their sincere greetings and good wishes to the Chinese leadership.

They emphasised that relations with China remained the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. The CPEC is a landmark project in the development of the two countries’ bilateral relations, which are vital for regional security and stability, they said.

Pakistan and China would work together to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism, combating drug trafficking, border management and law enforcement. Both sides also agreed to accelerate progress on the CPEC and other ongoing economic projects.

During his visit, Shengkun held detailed talks with the interior minister. He also met Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.
