Five militants killed, three men martyred in Tirah checkpost clash

Hawaldar Masood, who was part of team that killed al Qaeda leader Shukrijuma, laid to rest in native village with full military honors

At least five militants were killed and three security personnel martyred in a clash between security forces and miscreants who attacked a checkpost in Tirah on Sunday.

Sources said that militants targeted a security checkpost in Maidan area in Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency with heavy artillery fire. The checkpost was damaged in the attack which also resulted in the martyrdom of three security personnel and injuries to four others.

In retaliatory action by the security personnel, five of the assailants were killed and eight others were wounded.

The injured security personnel were shifted to hospital where the condition of one of them was stated to be critical.

A heavy contingent of security personnel cordoned off the area after the attack and launched a search operation.

HAWALDAR LAID TO REST IN HARIPUR:

In the meanwhile, Hawaldar Masood Khan who embraced martyrdom in South Waziristan Agency in an operation against terrorists was laid to rest in his native village of Sultanpur in Haripur on Sunday with full military honors.

His funeral prayer, offered at Salargarh Sultanpur, was attended by Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Fazal, other military officers, soldiers and a large number of locals.

Hawaldar Masood was part of the team that killed al Qaeda leader Adnan Shukrijuma on Saturday.

Floral wreaths were laid at his grave on behalf of President Mamnoon Hussain and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.

The deceased is survived by a widow, three daughters and a son.
