Khan for talks’ resumption as he braces for Faisalabad shutdown

As Insafians roll up their sleeves to shut down Faisalabad on Monday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said Saturday that his party would resume dialogue from where it was broken if the government was sincere.

Talking to journalist in Lahore, Khan said that during the previous round of talks, the two sides had agreed on certain points and the only issue that remained unresolved was the resignation of the prime minister.

Khan said that PTI had withdrawn from the resignation demand and if the government was serious in dialogue, it should resume the talks and accept the agreements that were reached. He added that the government had agreed on the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe rigging in elections.

The cricketer-turned-politician further said that he has been assured by the transporters of Faisalabad that they would keep their vehicles off the roads while the district bar association has also supported the shutdown call. He asked the traders of Faisalabad to sacrifice a day by shutting down their businesses, however he made it clear that they would not force the shutdown in the city.

In the meanwhile, a meeting of the provincial office bearers and local leaders of PTI Faisalabad, held under the chairmanship of PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry, has decided that PTI workers will shut down nine points of Faisalabad on Monday, December 8, sources said.

The meeting at Kutchery Bazaar, which will be led by PTI chief Imran Khan, will be peaceful and no one will be forced to shut down shops, sources added.

The city points which will be closed down include motorway interchange Sargodha, Gutt Wala Pul, Nishat Abad, Narwala Road, Chenab Chowk, Abdullah Pur, Daewoo Road, Koh Noor Chowk and Novelty Pul.
