A station house officer (SHO), two ASIs and three constables were suspended Thursday over the incident of baton-charging of visually challenged people by Punjab Police. However, Punjab government spokesman Zaeem Qadri denied media reports that the protesters were baton-charged.

An enquiry committee, headed by SP Operations Umar Saeed, suspended Qila Gujjar Singh Station House Officer (SHO) Raffiullah on Thursday while Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abdullah Jan was made the officer on special duty (OSD) with immediate effect after the committee confirmed that the protesters were indeed manhandled.

Earlier, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains suspended five police officials including ASIs Muhammad Siddique and Muhammad Ansar and three constables Mustafa Ahmad, Ayub and Siddique Akbar.

The provincial police chief directed the Lahore CCPO to submit a detailed report after completing a thorough enquiry into the unfortunate incident.

He said special people are equal and respectable citizens and any inhumane attitude towards them will not be tolerated, adding that inhumane treatment is also a violation of police conduct.
