Lawmakers from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahuida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Friday spoke about the law and order situation of Karachi and the province blaming each other for unrest.
MQM leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan said the Sindh government must come out of TV shows and focus on real issues. He also condemned frequent incidents of killings and robberies, adding the government must establish peace in the province.
Information Minister Sharjeel Memon defended the government saying it arrests terrorists but court releases them. He lauded the role of government in making efforts in maintaining peace. PML-F leader Nusrat Sahar Abbasi also criticised the government saying “Sindh receives dead bodies of political activists daily but the government has done nothing to stop these killings.”
Meanwhile, two lawmakers of the Sindh Assembly walked out of the session after the speaker refused to allow them an opportunity to speak on the decrease in sugarcane prices.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmakers Nawaz Chandio and Syed Murad Ali Shah walked out of the assembly in protest as Sindh Minister for Agriculture Ali Nawaz Mehar said that the Sindh government has set a temporary price of sugarcane after directives from the Sindh High Court.
Opposition members also attempted to raise the issue but their requests were shot down by Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani.
The members said that the sugarcane price has been set at Rs 155 per 40 kilogrammes whereas last year the price was Rs 172 per 40 kgs.
Sindh Assembly Opposition Leader Sheharyar Memon said that the government is trying to destroy the cultivators of the province.
He said that the sugarcane crushing season was supposed to start on October 1 but due to the price set by the government and conflicts of the sugar mills’ owners, it has been delayed.

Meanwhile, two new ministers have been inducted in the Sindh cabinet.
Nadir Magsi and Husnain Mirza of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will take oath of their offices soon while their departments would be announced later.
