Parliamentary secy for interior says at least 11, 285 people killed in terror incidents in last five years
The National Assembly was informed on Friday that Pakistan has suffered losses of $80 billion and 50,000 lives in the war on terrorism over the last 10 years.
Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Maryam Aurangzeb said that the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control recorded at least 11, 285 deaths due to terrorism in the last five years.
“More than 28, 561 people sustained injuries in various blasts in the same period,” she said, adding that extremist groups have been active throughout the country with their own ideologies during the last 10 years.
She informed the House there is currently a bar on issuance of arms licenses in the federal capital, while, under the 18th Amendment provinces have to set their own rules.
She upheld several policy steps have been taken for controlling and improving the law and order situation in the country. “The government has prepared a new policy for strengthening internal security and to improve law and order.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan told the House that government’s negotiations with IMF have been successful and the last tranche has also been approved.
To a question, he said the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is striving for a uniform rate of Sales Tax on all commodities.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed told the House that 66,555 contract employees of grade one to 15 have been regularised according to the decision of the previous government.
He was replying to a calling attention notice moved by Muzamil Qureshi and others regarding non-regularisation of the employees of the federal government, autonomous and semi-autonomous departments despite many years of service at their credit.
Meanwhile, Chairman Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control Rana Shamim Ahmed Khan presented a report of the committee on the bill to rationalize and reorganise the local government system in the federal capital.
The National Assembly also expressed its deep gratitude to the President for his address to both Houses of the parliament.
Winding up the debate on President’s address, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed said the law and order situation has improved considerably after the launch of Zarb-e-Azb operation against terrorists.
He said the personnel of armed forces and security agencies are rendering sacrifices to protect the frontiers of the motherland.
