Korean Ambassador to Pakistan Song Jong-hwan Thursday termed 2014 a very special year which marked a new stage in bilateral ties between the two countries.
“The relations between Pakistan and Korea are now stronger and better than ever before. We can further improve them and now we are seeing our cooperation in Information Technology (IT) sector as well,” he said, adding that IT was a major driver of growth and accounts for 11 percent of Korean GNP and 30 per cent of Korean exports which were more than half a trillion dollars.
At an e-Government Workshop-2014 organised by Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT), Ambassador Song Jong-hwan said this was excellent initiative and he was quite hopeful that it would benefit Pakistan a lot with regards to formulation of an e-Government Master Plan. He said e-governance was growing need of society adding that it should be commended that Pakistan was adopting this futuristic concept.
With regard to terming 2014 as very a special year, he said in January, speaker of National Assembly of Korea visited Pakistan and in April Korean prime minister visited Pakistan. Both were the highest level Korean officials to ever visited Pakistan. He also mentioned visit of Minister of State for IT Anusha Rahman to Korea in October.
Ambassador Song said the other major event was celebration of Korea Week in November to commemorate growing links between Pakistan and Korea. He congratulated the government for Pakistan’s election to Administrative Council of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) held in Korea and also for successful auction of 3G and 4G licenses.
