Corps Commander Karachi Lt General Naveed Mukhtar on Thursday said that only politicians could restore peace in Karachi.
He expressed these views while addressing the participants of a seminar held in connection with the defense exhibition IDEAS 2014. He said the Pakistan Army would continue an operation against terrorists and criminals but the stability in the city could only be restored on political grounds. Lt General Mukhtar said that terrorism and drug mafia had led to increase in extremism in the city. The extensive networks of terrorism would be seized but it would take time, he added.
He further said that terrorism had caused death of at least 60,000 citizens of Pakistan and that it had damaged the urban areas of the city to a great extent.
