IHC restrains disconnecting gas supply to 314 CNG stations

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has restrained disconnecting the gas supply to CNG stations and also issued notice to the ministry of petroleum and natural resources and others.

A single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah took up for hearing Thursday petitions filed by owners of 314 CNG stations of Potohar region.

Barrister Rauf, counsel for the petitioners, argued that orders were being issued by the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SBGP) for disconnecting the gas supply connection in respect of 314 CNG stations of Potohar region. This act is illegal. The billion of rupees investment by the CNG stations owners will stand ceased.

He told the court that providing electricity and gas to the citizens was responsibility of government and it was part of fundamental rights of the citizens. The ministry of petroleum and natural resources was meting out unconstitutional treatment to the CNG stations owners, he said. The government has issued orders for disconnecting gas supply to 314 CNG stations of Potohar region despite the fact that they pay electricity and gas bills.

The court while issuing notices to the ministry of petroleum and natural resources and others adjourned hearing of the case for one week.
