ISLAMABAD-
Three names were shortlisted on Wednesday for the post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) following consultations between the government and opposition leaders, private media reported.
According to the report, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah met with Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad.
Post meeting, they announced that ustice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan, Justice (retd) Tariq Pervez and Justice (retd) Tanveer Ahmed have been finalised by the two sides while taking Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and other political parties in confidence.
Next, a 12-member parliamentary committee will be finalising one of the nominations for the post.
The committee will meet Thursday with Senator Rafiq Rajwana in chair at the Parliament House. The body is comprised of four senators and eight MNAs – six from PML-N, three from PPP and one each from PTI, Muttahid Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party (ANP).
