A three-day anti-polio campaign will commence in 11 Union Councils (UCs) of Karachi from December 5 during which 272,000 children below five will be administrated polio drops.
A meeting was held under the supervision of Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Wednesday to review arrangements of the three-day drive. The meeting was also attended by all deputy commissioners, SSP Ejaz Hashmi, EDO Health Karachi Zafar Ejaz, town health officers and representatives of World Health Organisation and UNICEF.
The participants reviewed the performance of three-day polio drive of last month which was continued for seven days in order to meet the target. It was stated in the meeting that refusals and absences of children at home cases had declined. It was said that 100 per cent target would be achieved this time.
The staff working under the supervision of town health officers and World Health Organisation informed the participants that performance of teams in 11 UCs remained better as compared to past despite many difficulties.
They informed that polio drops were administrated to children with coordination of religious scholars, eminent and social workers where administration of polio drops were not possible. The commissioner and WHO representatives showed their satisfaction at the performance of anti-polio teams.
