*Citizens reject PTI’s shutdown call, say strikes adversely affect business activities and economy

People from almost all schools of thoughts have rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s call for shutdowns, saying such strikes would adversely affect business activities and the country’s economy.

Several citizens said that some political elements were creating anarchy in the country for their vested interest, adding that politics of long marches, civil disobedience and shutdowns would harm traders, businessmen and the national economy.

They said that protesting parties should show sympathy towards the economy and take the call back.

Another group of citizens said that war against terrorism has already harmed the country and in this situation, another hurdle was being created in the way of progress when an elected democratic government was trying to resolve the long standing issues.

“The country has been facing various challenges, including terrorism, extremism and energy crisis. It cannot afford political instability,” they said.

They said the leadership of all political parties should join hands for strengthening economy instead of hatching conspiracies against the government.

On the other hand PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry said that the call would be peaceful like the protest campaign already running from last 111 days and the party would contact traders, transporters and labour organisation to render the call successful.
