DHA Degree College for Women holds convocation ceremony

The 13th Convocation of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Degree College for Women was held at the college auditorium on Monday. Karachi University (KU) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Qaiser presided over the convocation ceremony.

As many as 194 graduates of the session 2012 and 2013 were awarded BA, BSc and B.Com degrees whereas 19 Masters’ degrees were also conferred upon the students.

Fourteen students of the college were awarded degrees in MA (Economic), five students in MA (English), 68 students were awarded B.Com degrees, 32 students received BSc degrees and 68 students were given BA degrees in humanities and liberal arts.

Speaking at the occasion, the KU VC said, “Backwardness and regression of the nation is because of the deteriorating quality of education.”

He lamented that education never got its due priority in Pakistan and as such “the culture of learning, knowledge and awareness in the society could not be developed”.

He commended DHA Degree College For Women for maintaining its glorious traditions of academic excellence and for producing confident and dynamic women graduates who “are the ambassadors of good will for the country”.

Earlier, college Principal Dr Farhat Agha in her annual report highlighted the academic and co-curricular achievements of the college. She said that the college imparted wholesome education to young women to nurture their intellectual and physical talents so that they could excel in various fields of practical life.

Ayesha Javed got the gold medal for securing first position in MA (English) 2012, Sidra Naeem and Huma Rafiq for getting first and second position in MA (Economics) 2012, Amina Dilshad and Irum Irshad for getting top two positions in MA (Economics) 2013 and Barza Tariq for first position in MA English 2013. Students who received gold and silver medals for getting top positions in University at undergraduate level include Rija Zahid, first in Intermediate 2012 exam and Nida Zehra, second in BA 2013 exams.

The Vice Chancellor also awarded medals and cash awards to outstanding students of the college who secured top three positions in various university and board examinations. At the end DHA Director Education Commodore (r) Talib Hussain presented a memorial shield to the KU VC.
