The magisterial court has accepted the bail of a madrassa teacher and her two accomplices accused of illegally keeping 36 girls in a house in Karachi’s Laquatabad area.

On November 26, police recovered these girls from a house and sent them to a shelter home. Originally from Bajaur Agency, the girls reportedly went missing from Hameeda Bibi’s madrassa on Jamshed Road near Guru Mandir.

Police presented Hameeda and two of her accomplices before the court Friday seeking their one-day remand, however, their bails were accepted because the suspects were accused of a bailable offence.

The counsel of the suspects requested for their bail which was accepted against payment of surety bonds. Hameeda was directed to pay Rs 50,000 while the accomplices were told to pay Rs 0.1 million each.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till December 10.

Hameeda owned the madrassa and ran it like a boarding school where these girls used to live. She had been running the unregistered madrassa for the last many years.
