A constitutional petition has been filed in Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking the court’s order to disqualify Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar from the post of senator and restrain him from functioning as finance minister.

The petition was filed by Farrukh Nawaz Bhatti through Advocate GM Chaudhry. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general (DG), National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Finance Minister Dar were declared respondents.

The petitioner took the plea that Dar had filed an affidavit in an accountability court (AC) that “he has laundered money to other countries”. The petitioner therefore requested the court to issue orders to ECP to get vacated the senate seat occupied Dar besides and also direct the FIA DG to investigate Dar in “money laundering matters”.

The petitioner stated that Dar had worked as a chartered accountant with different businessmen and had benefited them through money laundering. Therefore, the court no longer remains eligible for his office under Article 62 of the Constitution, the petition added.

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah will hear the case.
