Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah has rejected the rumours that the provincial government has reduced the role of Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) in appointments and said it will be strengthened further.
He said: “SPSC is an autonomous body and we never interfere into its affairs.”
Reacting to the media reports, he said the government had no intention to shrink the powers and role of the SPSC, Qaim Ali Shah said, adding it was an autonomous body and all the recruitments from grade B-17 and above were made through it.
He further said the government departments were only authorised to make recruitments from grade B-1 to B-16 after following proper procedure such as invitation of applications through newspapers, formation of selection committees and then selection of the required staff in a transparent manner purely on merit.
Referring to the press conference of former MQM minister, the chief minister said the PPP government had imposed a ban on new recruitments as soon as it came into power. “The ban was lifted last month, after which only constables have been appointed on district basis on merit,” he added.
The chief minister said now the MQM was raising these issues unnecessarily when it had quit the coalition, otherwise they had never raised these issues in the past.
