The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the provincial law officer on Thursday to submit a fresh joint investigation team (JIT) report of a missing Karachi Water & Sewerage Board’s accounts officer allegedly arrested in connection with murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Imran Farooq in London.

A division bench of SHC took up the petition filed by Beena Khalid who moved the court seeking recovery of her husband, Khalid Shamim, who was missing since January 2011.

The petitioner had submitted that her husband, who was a KWSB employee, was taken away by law enforcement agencies from Malir Halt, Karachi, on January 6, 2011, and his whereabouts were not known since then.

The counsel for the petitioner had quoted media reports as stating petitioner’s husband was taken into custody by LEAs personnel at the Karachi airport in August 2011 on suspicion of his involvement in the murder of MQM leader Imran Farooq in London.

On Thursday, the court directed the additional advocate general to ensure that fresh meeting of JIT takes place within a week and submit its report on the next hearing.

Meanwhile, the same bench also directed the federal law officer to summon comments from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) on a petition seeking recovery of Dr Ismail Sheikh, said to be arrested by LEAs personnel.
