RCCI decries increase in extortion cases

During a meeting at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Thursday, RCCI President Syed Asad Mashadi has said that businessmen are receiving extortion letters which creates panic among the community.

The police have resolved all the registered extortion cases in past but new and increasing extortion and kidnapping for ransom incidents build a sense of insecurity among traders as business community is the main target of cases of extortion, kidnapping for ransom, robbery and murder etc.

Mashadi demanded of the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take notice of the situation and said that if situation prevails it will create Karachi-like situation in the city.

Former RCCI President Najam Rehan, Vice President Saboor Malik, member executive committee and Fiaz Qureshi were also present on the occasion.

Mashadi said that despite security cameras and guards, no clue has yet been found, and this doubled the worries of traders and such incidents are continuously happening in daylight. He said that chief minister must take notice of the situation because if it will not be dealt with iron hand; such wave of terror will expand to the whole province.
