THARPARKAR-

Five more young lives were lost on Thursday in the drought-hit Tharparkar, taking the death toll due to malnutrition to 94 in the month of November.

A 3-month-old and a 5-month-old passed away in Civil hospital of Mithi while another died in a hospital in Islamkot tehsil.

With a three-year drought spell in the area, around 540 children have lost their lives over the past 11 months.

The provincial government has been severely criticised by opposition for failing to control the loss of lives and inadequate relief efforts. Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has denied that the ever-growing death toll is a result of malnutrition, insisting that the deaths are largely on account of maternity related complications.
