ISLAMABAD-
Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Wednesday constituted a seven-member larger bench to take up a case related to the disqualification of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, a private news channel reported.
The seven-member larger bench will be presided by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk.
The bench will take up the petitions pertaining to the disqualification of PM, filed by Gohar Nawaz Sindhu, PTI leader Ishaq Khakwani and PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
The hearing of the case is expected to take place in next two weeks. The bench will hear the petitions in the light of articles 62, 63 and 66 of the constitution which underline the eligibility conditions of a candidate to hold public office.
The petitioners maintained that the PM should be disqualified from his office over his confession of army chief’s role as mediator between government and protesting parties in his August 29 speech.
The case was initially taken up by three-member bench, led by Justice Jawad S.Khawaja comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Mushir Alam, However, the matter was later on referred to CJP on Nov 10.
