NA speaker to inaugurate moot on women policing

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will inaugurate a roundtable conference on “Women Policing” here in Parliament House on Thursday (today).

The conference is being organized by Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) with collaboration of Heinrach-Boll-Stiftung Foundation with aim to discuss issues and challenges of status of women police in Pakistan.

Parliamentarians, representatives from civil society, law enforcement agencies, legal practitioners and senior experts from diverse fields associated with police department and law enforcement agencies would discuss the status of women policing and issues confronting it.

The conference will converse focusing on achieving the objectives to interact with interior ministry, police departments and institutions and gather firsthand knowledge about the issues and challenges being faced in recruiting women within the police and the problems being by the women police in the discharge of their duties.

The participants of the conference will also discuss and assess implementation and effectiveness of laws and policies related to police and the issues in their full implementation.

They will also learn about various initiatives taken by National Police Bureau and other international agencies that focus on women strengthening women police in Pakistan.

In light of suggestions and recommendation of the participants, Women Parliamentarians Caucus will deliberate on how it can play its role in making the existing laws and mechanisms of the police and law enforcement agencies more effective.

The presentations will be followed by discussions in which delegates will be invited to react to points raised by the experts and to relate them to their knowledge of their experiences. At the conclusion of the roundtable conference, a Joint Communiqué will be issued.
