A larger bench of the Supreme Court was formed on Wednesday to hear the case of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasirul Mulk will be heading the bench along with six other judges including Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa.
It is yet to be decided whether the court will proceed with the hearing.
Earlier this month, an application seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz was filed by Insaf Lawyers’ Forum Senior Vice President Gohar Nawaz Sindhu requesting Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk to constitute a larger bench.
Justice Khawaja had ordered the Supreme Court office to place the case file before the chief justice, who, if he considered it appropriate, might constitute a larger bench.
On the other hand, earlier in October Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk rejected the plea to form a larger bench of the apex court to hear Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s ongoing disqualification case.
Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain through his counsel had requested for the formation of a seven-member larger bench of the Supreme Court to hear Sharif’s disqualification trial. he main petitioner in the case, Ishaq Khan Khakwani who belongs to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), raised objections to Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja’s presence in the bench hearing the case.
