Govt to resolve industry problems on priority: Mushahid

Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Industries Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan on Wednesday said that consistent progress of the industry was vital for better economic development of the country.

He said the government was determined to resolve all major issues of industry on priority to facilitate its smooth growth.

While addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan said government was making all possible efforts to revive industrialization in the country and was exploring various options for the restoration of sick industries.

The senator said that for this purpose, government was working on short and long-term energy projects to ensure consistent supply of electricity and gas to industries.

He said government was also setting priorities for export-oriented industries and those that provide more job opportunities to pave way for a flourishing Pakistan.

He said political dharnas were affecting the economy, however, government was prepared to cope with such challenges.

He assured that Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production would play its role to enhance the industrial and production sector in order to ensure continuous development of the manufacturing activities in the country.

Acknowledging the role of business community in the economic development of the country, he also invited ICCI representatives to present their proposals in the meeting of Standing Committee on Industries and Production for addressing the issues of industry, which would be given due consideration to facilitate industrial growth.

Speaking at the occasion, Shakeel Munir, acting president Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry highlighted the issues being faced by the local industry.

He said government should ensure interrupted energy supply to industry to enable it to run up to its capacity.

He said basic infrastructure in industrial areas of Islamabad was in urgent need of up gradation to promote industrial activities and improve their competitiveness.
