PM accepts Zahid Hamid’s resignation, Enver Baig also resigns

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Zahid Hamid as the federal minister for science and technology.

The resignation was formally approved by the premier three days after Hamid stepped down as minister following orders from a special court that he should also be nominated in the treason trial against former military dictator Pervez Musharraf.

Meanwhile, Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairman Enver Baig has also resigned.

Baig has accused the bureaucracy of creating hurdles in implementation of the PM’s programme for the wellbeing of the poor masses.

Sources told Pakistan Today that Baig was not on speaking terms with the BISP secretary Shabbir Ahmed, who is said to be very close to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

It is likely that Baig will be handed the control of PIDC.
