  • NA speaker says Parliament committed to eliminating violence against women

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Monday said that political forces were determined to make Pakistan a place where everyone had the same opportunities to participate in all walks of life with dignity and self-esteem.

In his message on the International Day against elimination of violence against women being commemorated throughout the world today, he said violence against women is now being considered as a human rights and a peace and security issue around the world including Pakistan.

He said the progressive political and social forces in Pakistan have remained instrumental in curbing this evil during the past six decades of Pakistan’s independence.

He said violence against women happens everywhere—at home and at work and on streets, during peacetime and in conflict, adding that present Parliament was fully aware to that reality and was still working to curb this evil.

He said the formation of Women Parliamentary Caucus was the joint effort by the women parliamentarians and they were committed to play a key role in putting together all different areas around a common agenda to ensure protection and access of rights for women. “In order to eliminate violence against women, we need to engage men and youth as well as media in this struggle,” the speaker stressed.
