Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices and sought replies from Ministry of Water and Power, IESCO, NEPRA and other parties in a petition filed against charging of Neelum-Jhelum surcharge by power distribution companies through electricity bills.
Justice Athar Minullah of IHC took up Imdad Hussain Shah versus Ministry of Water and Power case for hearing Tuesday.
Counsel for the petitioner Yasir Mehmood Chaudhry appeared in the court and told Neelum-Jhelum surcharge is being charged by power distribution companies under additional billing head. This burden is being shifted to the shoulders of people illegally because the power distribution companies and the ministry cannot collect this surcharge.
He further told the court that power distribution companies collected Rs 20 billion from consumers earlier illegally due to overbilling. A political party has challenged over billing in the court. The court is requested to restrain power distribution companies from charging Neelum-Jhelum surcharge to consumers, he prayed.
